What’s not included
International long distance is not included — apart from calls to the US and Mexico from Canada.
Calling anywhere else in the world from Canada is charged separately, even on plans that include unlimited calling.

Once your data runs out abroad, you get no data at all until you buy a pass.
This is the opposite of how it works at home. In Canada you keep going at a slower speed; in most other countries you are simply cut off until you pay.

On some plans, using your phone outside Freedom’s own network is not included.
Freedom’s own network covers a limited set of areas. Everywhere else runs on a partner network — “Nationwide” — which some plans charge extra for.

Everything else you should know
Could cause you problems
If most of your usage is outside Freedom’s coverage area two months running, they can cancel your service.
This catches people who move, work away from home, spend winters somewhere warmer, or simply live somewhere their phone sits on a partner network most of the time. It is not about how much you use — it is about where.

Freedom can decide on its own that your usage is “excessive or unreasonable” and cancel your plan.
No threshold is given anywhere. The judgment is explicitly theirs alone.

Once your data runs out, you drop to 256 kbps — fine for email, too slow for video.
That is on Freedom’s own network. Freedom is upfront about the effect: browsing, email, messaging and calls keep working; streaming and large downloads generally will not.

Outside Freedom’s own network, that slowdown is twice as harsh: 128 kbps.
This is the speed that matters most if you live outside Freedom’s coverage, since that is where your phone will spend its time.

Keep using data after being slowed, and they can slow you again — down to 64 kbps.
At that speed most modern apps simply stop working.

Unlimited calling can be taken away, or your plan swapped for one without it.
Triggers listed include calling that “grossly exceeds” typical use, lots of short calls to different numbers, and using voice service for anything other than live conversation.

Better than most carriers
You are never charged overage for going over your data. You get slowed down instead.
Worth weighing seriously. Bill shock from data overage — the single biggest source of surprise charges in Canadian wireless — is not a risk here. The trade is speed, not money.

Most Canadian carriers bill a flat fee for each day you use your phone in another country. A two-week trip can add well over a hundred dollars. Here it is part of the plan.
